PATCH TEST

WHY IS PATCH TESTING FOR SEMI PERMANENT MAKE UP SO IMPORTANT?...

Patch testing for semi permanent make up is a simple way to eliminate one of a rare but potential issues, being stuck with semi permanent make up which is sore, uncomfortable and unsightly during the healing process.

And it’s not just the look and feel that can be affected in the short-term. If you have an allergy to a product, whether it be hair dye, topical makeup, moisturizing cream or semi permanent pigments, it can cause long-term health issues which will never go away.

How A Patch Test Is Performed…

Using a small fine pointed needle the skin is pierced on the scalp or behind ear within the hair line.  The pigment is applied to one area on scalp and topical anesthetic is applied to the other side. The needle pricks the skin which feels like a tiny scratch and may sting for a split second, but it’s better to be safe than sorry.

How Long To Wait Before Getting Permanent Makeup Service...

It is common to wait 3 to 7 days after Patch Test before proceeding with Permanent Makeup service. Patch Tests are great to have prior to service but everybody heals and responds differently. Sometimes people develop an allergy to their permanent makeup after several months of wearing it as it takes time for our body to identify an allergen and take action. Therefore a patch test may not always pick up on any allergies right away.

Common Allergic Reactions To  A Patch Test…

Reactions include, rashes, major swelling (there will be a little swelling after a treatment but this is normal and should go down within a few days) inflammation, irritation, soreness and sometimes lumps under the skin. Micropigmentation pigments are not the only reason of allergy. Use of stainless steel needles can also contribute to an allergy as they contain nickel and chromium, but such reactions heal or subside eventually without special treatment.

Other symptoms of an allergic reaction include: cracking, oozing, bleeding, swelling or raised, puffy skin, bumps and blisters. The area may itch, burn, be sensitive or painful to touch. If these symptoms develop in a couple of months and won’t heal yet will only get worse, this is a clear sign that the patient has an allergy. In this case, only a physician and/or a dermatologist can help. It is important that the patient should receive certified help.

Warning About Not Having A Patch Test…

Removing permanent make up is not an easy job. Laser can take a few sessions and there still maybe some pigment left behind also it’s not always safe to laser round your eyes. Laser removal also has a hard time picking up different pigment colors and can cause hair loss.
